Mass Spectrometry
The Mass Spectrometry Facility is located in Toronto, Ontario. The facility was established in 1998 and resides within The Hospital for Sick Children.
We offer a wide range of services including:
- Accurate mass determination of intact proteins and peptides
- Peptide sequencing by MS/MS measurements
- Identification of gel-separated proteins
- On-line LC/ESI MS and off-line LC/MALDI MS analyses of complicate peptide digests
- Quantitation using iCAT or iTRAQ labels
- De novo peptide sequencing of novel proteins
- Sample pretreatments, including desalting and in-gel tryptic digestion
Turn around times for these services vary from 1 to 14 days, depending on the application.
We currently accept gel bands detected by Coomassie Blue R250, Silver stain or Fluorescent stains (i.e. Molecular Probes Sypro Ruby). We require Coomassie Blue R250 stained bands for identification of post-translational modifications and we strongly recommend that you use Coomassie Blue rather than silver (please see sample protocols) for sequencing. The facility is open to collaborative work with researchers in the development of novel methods and/or customizing existing methods for specific applications.
