Derek Stephens

Senior Biostatistician
Derek has been the manager of Biostatistics, Design & Analysis since 1998. He has been a consulting biostatistician with The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) since 1992. He also serves on science review panels and data safety monitoring boards. Derek has developed expertise in the areas of infectious diseases, surgery, neurology, and respiratory medicine. Derek obtained his MSc in Statistics from the University of Toronto in 1991.

Derek is a lecturer with the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Toronto, and has served on several thesis committees.

Derek’s expertise is in the area of survival analysis, logistic regression and ROC curves, reliability and validity, repeated measures for continuous data, regression and ANOVA, and design and sample size.

Derek’s research interests include repeated measures for categorical data, repeated events for survival data, bayesian methods, modern regression methods – generalized additive models, multivariate analysis – classification and discrimination, and interim analysis
