The Heart Transplant Program at SickKids started in 1992 and has grown over the last 30 years with gradual and continuous evolution into Canada’s premier centre for paediatric heart transplantation. Through clinical expertise, volumes, survival rates and research productivity the heart transplant program has become one of the world’s best and biggest programs; comparable to other internationally ranked centres. The Heart Transplant Program is comprised of a team of highly motivated and committed interdisciplinary specialists with a high degree of expertise in managing this complex patient population.

Did you know?
In 1996, SickKids completed the world’s first ABO-incompatible infant heart transplant – a transplant performed on a patient with an incompatible blood type to the organ donor. This pioneering work has decreased wait times and death rates for infants awaiting a heart transplant and other solid organ transplants world-wide.
