Interpretation

Negative

NO BK virus DNA detected by real-time PCR

Positive, <1 x 107

BK DNA DETECTED at a concentration of LESS than 1 x 107 genome copies per mL. A viral load of LESS than 1 x 107 genome copies per mL in urine is LESS LIKELY to be associated with renal disease.

Positive, >1 x 107

BK DNA DETECTED at a concentration of GREATER than or equal to
1 x 107 genome copies per mL. A viral load of GREATER than or equal to 1 x 107 genome copies per mL in urine is MORE LIKELY to be associated with renal disease. A follow-up plasma specimen for viral load testing in plasma is suggested.
