Research MRI Facility

The Research MRI facility at Sickkids provides a wide range of human and animal-model magnetic resonance (MR) imaging capabilities to Toronto-area scientists.  Imaging is performed on a Siemens 3T PrismaFit system.

Established in 2004 through grant funding from the Canada Foundation for Innovation, the Research MRI Facility at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) provides MRI capabilities to a variety of scientists. Use of the facility is available for research projects involving phantoms, animal-models, and human participants – from newborns to adults. The scanner is also available for use by basic science imaging researchers, who are developing new programs, pulse sequence designs and refining techniques. In addition to this, support is available for acquisition of preliminary data to facilitate new grant submissions.

  • conventional anatomical imaging, including whole body imaging
  • functional MRI (fMRI), diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), tractography, arterial spin labeling (ASL) and susceptibility weighted imaging (SWI)
  • phase-contrast flow imaging, contrast-enhanced perfusion quantitation and delayed enhancement imaging
  • spectroscopic imaging (1H and 31P)

Hours of operation:  Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 6 p.m.
