Clinical Trials

The Clinical Trials Support Unit (CTSU) is a cornerstone of the Division of Haematology Oncology, serving as an essential hub for clinical research operations.

What CTSU does

Its primary mandate is to facilitate, coordinate, and manage clinical trials, ensuring that both patients and investigators have access to high-quality, cutting-edge research opportunities. By streamlining trial processes and upholding rigorous ethical and regulatory standards, the CTSU helps translate scientific innovation into improved patient outcomes and advances in the overall field.

Programs we support

In addition to overseeing and coordinating clinical trials, the CTSU is instrumental in administering the U-Link and STEP-1 Programs at SickKids.

  • STEP-1
The STEP-1 program is a Canadian pilot initiative that provides children and adolescents with challenging-to-treat cancers access to academic early-phase clinical trials at SickKids, offering upfront financial support for travel and related expenses.
  • U-Link
U-Link serves as a nationwide platform that informs healthcare professionals, patients, and families about paediatric cancer clinical trials throughout Canada, while also facilitating access to logistical and financial assistance.

Collectively, these initiatives are designed to enhance access, equity, and awareness for children and families participating in cancer research opportunities.
