CPR and Resuscitation Training for Families

Heartsaver CPR and Automated External Defibrillation (AED)

The Heartsaver CPR and AED course contains up-to-date content and science from the 2015 Guidelines for CPR and ECC (Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada). It is designed to teach rescuers within the general public the lifesaving skills of CPR and relief of choking in adults, children and infants, as well as, how to use an AED with both adults and children. The course is also designed for those who have a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements.

This course is being offered for groups upon request (minimum of 6 participants is required for setting up a course).

  • Heartsaver CPR and AED for general public - 3.5 hours
  • Heartsaver CPR and AED (C) for first responders or duty to respond - 4 hours
  • To receive a Heartsaver CPR & AED course completion card, students must pass a skills test.
  • To receive a Heartsaver CPR & AED (C) course completion card, a written exam must be passed in addition to the skills test.

Friends and Family CPR Training

The Friends and Family course aims to help teach families of children and infants at SickKids CPR and relief of choking, with the option to learn advanced airway management (i.e. involving tracheostomies).  Although encouraged for families of children with a high risk for cardiopulmonary compromise prior to discharge, this course is open to all families and friends of SickKids.

During the class you will learn specific techniques for one age group (infant, child or teen)

  • How to do a one person rescue
  • How to do a two person rescue
  • How to help your child if he/she is choking

Virtual Infant CPR Information Session

The Virtual CPR Information session teaches the lifesaving skill of infant CPR and Choking. This two hour information session taught by a SickKids Resuscitation Education Instructor, includes demonstrations and skills practice. This session is open to anyone who would like information on Infant CPR and Choking.

During the class you will receive information on specific techniques for infants:

  • One person rescue
  • Two person rescue
  • How to help your child if he/she is choking
