The Hospital for Sick Children is an academic health sciences centre that is dedicated to the education of health-care professionals, staff, and the community. The Nurse Visitor Program intends to accommodate requests from provincial and national nursing professionals and to facilitate the exchange of information with community partners.

Provincial and national nursing professionals interested in learning more about the practice at SickKids can choose from a variety of unique opportunities such as:

  • Informational interviews
  • Observation experience
  • Practice experience

Application Information

In order to facilitate the processing of a high number of visitor requests, an application process has been established. Applications must be received a minimum of four weeks prior to the intended visitation date. The length of visits will be negotiated by the visitor, SickKids Learning Institute, and the accepting unit, and is dependent on the nature and objectives of the visit. Nursing visitors are expected to meet SickKids immunization and surveillance requirements and to sign an agreement to maintain confidentiality at all times. All nursing visitors need to submit proof of support for their visit from their institution/manager. Please note that nursing visitors applying for practice experiences must carry professional liability insurance in the amount of 5 million dollars per occurrence provided by their own institution of employment.

A non-refundable application fee of $200 will be applied. Payment must be made online. A secure link will be sent to the email address provided after the application has been submitted.
