Plan ahead for University Avenue construction starting Sept. 21

Summary:

Watermain replacement and road restoration work along University Avenue outside SickKids is expected to add extra travel time in the area.

The City of Toronto will begin watermain replacement and road restoration work along University Avenue outside SickKids and other hospitals that is expected to add extra travel time in the area.

The work, which will stretch from Armoury to College Streets, begins on Sept. 21 and is expected to continue through spring 2027.

University Avenue will be reduced to one northbound lane in the construction area. Southbound lanes will remain open to traffic. Note that the University/Gerrard intersection will be closed to regular traffic for the first few weeks.

SickKids will remain open and accessible, and pedestrian and emergency vehicle access will be maintained throughout the work.

Patients, families and visitors are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and check current traffic or transit information before leaving for the hospital.
