The Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology (DIR) is committed to excellence in patient care, education and research. We actively recruit skilled professionals throughout the year to join our dynamic and multidisciplinary team.
We hire the following roles, among others: Medical Radiation Technologists (MRTs), Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (DMS), Child Life Specialists (CLS), Nurse Practitioners (NPs), Registered Nurses (RNs), Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) Administrators, Patient Information Coordinators and Clerks, Radiologists, Radiation Technologist Assistants, Research Assistants and Coordinators, Administrative and Support Staff (Quality Leads, Project Managers).

Orientation Program
A new more comprehensive, learner-centered, interprofessional orientation education program is set to launch for all newly hired staff within DIR in winter 2026.
The DIR Orientation Program supports integration into both SickKids and the DIR environment by strengthening knowledge, skills, and interprofessional collaboration to ensure safe, efficient, high-quality care.
- A Paediatric Nursing Orientation Program (PNO) for all Registered Nurse (RN) new hires to SickKids
- Paediatric, Child, and Family-Centred Training for all staff including MRTs and Sonographers
- An interactive session on interprofessional care and collaboration for allied health new hires
- A DIR orientation for all new hires covering structure, communication, education, quality, feedback, and advocacy
- A clinical orientation with didactic, hands-on, and simulation activities on infection prevention and emergency preparedness.
- 3 to 6 months of structured competency-based modality specific training

Yes. While a paediatric placement is an asset, it is not required to apply to SickKids. Many successful candidates join the hospital without prior paediatric experience. What matters most is a strong foundation in your profession, a commitment to excellence in patient care, and a willingness to learn.

Staffing ratios vary by imaging modality, patient acuity, and staff experience levels, ensuring appropriate care for paediatric patients and their families.
SickKids is committed to supporting continuous learning and professional development including interprofessional education days, infection prevention and control and emergency preparedness simulations, and mentorship and development opportunities for career growth. We offer a variety of programs, including workshops, seminars, conferences, and e-learning modules.
Eligible staff may also receive funding support from the Staff Continuing Professional Development Fund (SCPDF) for external and internal courses, certifications, and advanced degrees that enhance their skills and support both individual career goals and our mission of delivering exceptional care.
We offer a variety of shift schedules depending on the role and modality, including full-time, part-time, and rotational shifts. Depending on the modality and role, day, evening, overnight, and on-call shifts may be required. Where operationally possible, flexibility is provided to support work-life balance, including options for modified schedules, shift swaps, and remote work for eligible roles. Scheduling is managed in consultation with teams to ensure both staff needs and patient care requirements are met.
Yes, we welcome applications from qualified MRTs, sonographers, and nurses who may not have prior acute paediatric experience. We provide comprehensive orientation, training, and mentorship programs to support new team members in developing the specialized skills needed to deliver high-quality care to pediatric patients.
