Speech-Language Pathology Referral Criteria
Who can refer
Physicians and Nurse Practitioners
Patient age
Under 18 years of age.
Patient acceptance
- Hyper-nasal resonance.
- Cleft palate confirmed or suspected.
- School-aged child with stuttering/fluency concerns.
Clinical criteria
- Velopharyngeal Dysfunction Clinic/Hyper-nasality.
- School-aged Fluency/Stuttering.
- Voice concerns should be redirected to the Department of Otolaryngology.
Rejection criteria
We do not accept referrals for isolated speech and language delays or for children suspected or diagnosed as having Autism Spectrum Disorder. These children are serviced within the community and do not meet this department’s requirements for specialty clinics.
Notes
Speech Language Pathology services are assessment/diagnostic based and children are linked with community resources for intervention/therapy.
Required supporting documentation
Copies of the most recent community speech-language report must be attached.
