PediCARES by SimKIDS
PediCARES (Paediatric Interprofessional Critical Advanced Resuscitation and Emergency Simulation) is an advanced, simulation-based workshop developed by SimKIDS. It has been designed to give healthcare professionals an opportunity to practice complex resuscitation and crisis resource management skills in acute paediatric emergencies. When high acuity, low occurrence (HALO) events take place, PediCARES prepares healthcare practitioners to act with confidence.
Workshop objectives
- Recognize and practice advanced resuscitation skills for acutely ill neonatal and paediatric patients.
- Apply principles of paediatric assessment for identification and management of acute paediatric emergencies.
- Practice and support various team member roles, responsibilities, and other crisis resource management skills required for management of acute paediatric emergencies.

Purpose of PediCARES
PediCARES is designed for health care providers who:
- Encounter paediatric emergencies in their workplace (ex: emergency department, critical care, urgent care, in-patient, out-patient/ambulatory, primary care, operating room, etc.).
- Participate as an active member of paediatric resuscitation teams in response to a variety of emergency situations.
- Responsible for performing advanced resuscitation skills during paediatric emergencies
- Interested in simulation-based training opportunities to practice performing high acuity, low-occurrence skills, and scenarios.
Pre-requisites for the workshop
To attend the in-person component, participants must complete the online learning module which will be emailed three weeks in advance of the workshop date.
We know everyone learns at their own pace, but we suggest planning for at least six hours to complete the modules. This workshop is designed to be an advanced offering so while it is not mandatory, participants may benefit from having previously completed BLS and PALS certifications (or other equivalent programming) before attending this workshop.
Registration
PediCARES is only offered a few times per year.
PediCARES offers two-tiered pricing for allied health & clinical staff (which can include: Residents, Fellows, Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurse Specialists, Physician Assistants, Respiratory Therapists, etc.) and for physicians. Check with your institute for professional development reimbursement.
Accreditation (CME) information
This activity is an accredited simulation activity (Section 3) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and approved by the SickKids Simulation Program. This course qualifies for a maximum of 7.5 hours (credits are automatically calculated).
