This year, SickKids took a new leap forward in interprofessional education by introducing dedicated Interprofessional Education Specialist (IES) roles in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology (DIR) and Rehabilitation. By embedding expert educators like Mandy Kohli, MRT (N) and Erin Lawson, MPH, OT Reg. (Ont.) into these departments, we’re fostering stronger, more collaborative teams. This opportunity enhances learning and patient care across the hospital, strengthening interprofessional relationships.

In DIR, Mandy has brought structure and innovation to technologist and sonographer training, conducting a comprehensive needs assessment to design a tailored, interprofessional orientation program. Along with delivering education days and e-learning modules, her contributions to new medical directives and cross-departmental collaboration empowers staff to excel and drives operational excellence.

In Rehabilitation, Erin organized the delivery of a three-part mental and behavioral health curriculum and fostered real-time problem solving by championing a Rehabilitation student group and structured rounds. Her efforts make learning more tailored and accessible, energizing staff across the department.

These new roles highlight the power of diverse skills, strengthening staff confidence and collaboration across SickKids in partnerships and amongst other educators. With education at the heart of daily practice, we’re building a culture of continuous growth—and this is just the beginning.
