Clinical teaching plays a vital role in advancing safe, compassionate, and evidence-informed practice, and we’re proud to recognize the healthcare professionals who go above and beyond to support the next generation of clinicians through exceptional teaching and mentorship.
The Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award recognizes a preceptor, field instructor or clinical supervisor who has demonstrated outstanding performance in their role and exhibits a commitment to excellence in clinical education to advance practice. This award is bestowed upon remarkable healthcare professionals who strive to create a positive, encouraging, and respectful learning environment and is an acknowledgement for their contributions to the professional growth of clinical students and trainees.
Students, trainees, colleagues, educators, and managers may nominate individuals for this award.
Who can be nominated?
- Healthcare professionals who coach, inspire, support and guide the professional development of clinical or health profession students or trainees, and help them integrate theory and practice.
- The nominee must have worked directly with at least one learner in the current calendar year (January to December).
Selection criteria
Each nominator is required to submit written evidence (up to 1000 words) with specific examples of how the nominee meets or exceeds the nomination criteria (below).
The nominee must demonstrate a commitment to clinical education and excellence in their practice area, which may be displayed through:
- Providing guidance and support to help the learner achieve objectives
- Creating planned and purposeful experiences to facilitate learning
- Utilization of innovative teaching approaches
- Fostering excellence through respectful and effective communication
- Supporting socialization of the learner into the professional role and the interprofessional team
- Providing effective & timely feedback to facilitate professional development
- Excellence in collaboration and demonstrated professionalism
- Exceptional enthusiasm for clinical teaching
- Depth and breadth of knowledge and expertise
- Use of best practices
- Commitment to excellence in child and family-centered care and Precision Child Health.
Deadline
Nominations can be submitted throughout the calendar year until December 31.
