Dr. Gail Annich started at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) as a fellow of paediatric critical care. Following a fellowship in Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), she went on to hold various roles at CS Mott Children’s Hospital at the University of Michigan. From 1997 to 2014 her roles included Director of Paediatric ECMO, Medical Director of PICU, Chair of Paediatric CPR/RRT, and Principal Investigator/Director of the ECLS Coagulation Lab. She returned to SickKids In September 2014 as Staff Physician in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Professor of Pediatrics, University of Toronto.

Dr. Annich holds many roles SickKids, both within the Department of Critical Care Medicine and at a hospital level. For the Department of Critical Care Medicine, she is Director of Quality and Safety, is Critical Care Lead for Trauma, CLABSI, and Emergency Preparedness. At a hospital level, she is Director of the Code Blue and Critical Care Response Teams, Medical Lead for CLABSI, Code Orange and Mass Casualty, and Medical Director for the Resuscitation Oversight Committee.

Research

Dr. Annich is also a Project Investigator with SickKids Research Institute and continues to pursue research focusing in coagulation, resuscitation, extracorporeal life support (ECLS), biomaterials/compatibility and COVID-19. She is on the editorial board for several journals and is considered expert in the field of ECLS.
