Biography

Dr. Julien Aguet is a paediatric radiologist in the Division of Emergency Radiology at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), the first dedicated division of its kind in Canada. He is also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Imaging at the University of Toronto and a Project Investigator at the SickKids Research Institute. His clinical expertise centers on imaging acutely ill and injured children, with a focus on advancing patient care while fostering a culture of compassion and well-being among staff and trainees.

A committed advocate for wellness, Dr. Aguet integrates mindfulness, collaboration, and efficiency into his work. Through the RadWELL initiative, he promotes resilience and connection by leading fellowship orientation sessions, monthly check-ins, and department-wide wellness events. He also co-facilitates mindfulness-based activities, including the DIR Mindfulness Lunch & Learns, providing colleagues with practical strategies to reduce stress, support mental health, and strengthen team cohesion.

In parallel, Dr. Aguet contributes to innovation in clinical workflows as part of the PACS Champion initiative. By offering technical support and personalized training, he helps optimize the use of radiology tools, streamlining processes and improving the user experience. His dual commitment to well-being and operational excellence reflects his belief that compassionate, collaborative environments are key to delivering exceptional care and driving progress in paediatric radiology.

Research

Dr. Aguet’s research focuses on advancing imaging technologies and protocols to improve outcomes for paediatric patients. Within the Division of Paediatric Emergency Radiology at SickKids, he is working to optimize workflows for acutely ill and injured children. His projects emphasize imaging protocols tailored to specific injury mechanisms and body regions, harnessing new technologies to minimize radiation exposure while enhancing diagnostic accuracy. These efforts aim to establish faster, safer, and more precise imaging pathways in paediatric trauma care.

In parallel, Dr. Aguet is developing a research program on mindfulness and its role in clinical practice, with a particular focus on supporting health-care providers. His work explores how mindfulness-based approaches can foster resilience, improve well-being, and enhance team dynamics in high-stress medical environments. While this research is at an early stage, it reflects his broader commitment to integrating compassion and well-being into the culture of paediatric emergency medicine.
