Publications
Dr. Katzman’s research focuses on the physiologic and developmental complexities of eating disorders in children and adolescents, including medical complications, bone health, brain structure and function, reproductive health, genetics, and severe and enduring anorexia nervosa. Her work has contributed to a deeper understanding of the biological, psychological, and developmental consequences of malnutrition and has supported the translation of research into improved clinical care, education, and standards of care.
Dr. Katzman has published over 300 articles, abstracts, book chapters, and editorials. Dr. Katzman co-edited a book for parents on eating disorders, “Help for Eating Disorder: A Parent’s Guide to Symptoms, Causes and Treatment”. In addition, she is the editor-in-chief for the adolescent medicine textbook, “Adolescent and Young Adult Health Care: A Practical Guide 7th edition”.

As a Clinician Investigator, she mentors learners and early-career faculty in research design, grant development, scholarly productivity, and academic career advancement.
She has held numerous leadership positions in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, including Chair of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) Adolescent Medicine Examination Board (2016–2022), Past Chair (2022–present), and member of the RCPSC Adolescent Medicine Subspecialty Committee (2009–2022). She played a key role in the development and implementation of Competence by Design for Adolescent Medicine and currently serves as Chair of the Competence Committee for the Adolescent Medicine Residency Training Program at SickKids.
At the University of Toronto, Dr. Katzman served as Director of the Health Science Research course (2014–2021), where she led the development of a foundational research curriculum for medical students and mentored faculty educators. In recognition of her educational leadership, she received the University of Toronto MD Program Teaching Award for Excellence (2021–2022).
As Director of Research for the Adolescent Medicine Residency Training Program, Dr. Katzman developed and oversees a comprehensive research curriculum that equips trainees with the skills to critically appraise, conduct, and apply research to improve adolescent health. She has supervised numerous resident, fellow, and student scholarly projects, with trainees publishing peer-reviewed research and pursuing successful academic and clinical careers across Canada and internationally.
Dr. Katzman is also a leader in continuing professional development and knowledge translation. She founded and chairs the National Adolescent Medicine Rounds, a nationally accredited educational forum, and serves as Pediatric Lead for Eating Disorders Ontario, providing provincial leadership in evidence-based education, quality improvement, and implementation of best practices. Internationally, she is Editor-in-Chief of Neinstein’s Adolescent and Young Adult Health, the leading textbook in adolescent medicine, and contributes to education, advocacy, and clinical excellence through advisory roles with numerous national and international eating disorder organizations.
