Iris Weiss Memorial Award for Excellence in Child and Adolescent Mental Health

Iris Weiss was a well respected and much loved SickKids registered nurse who devoted her career to the care of children and youth hospitalized on unit 7A.  Iris was known as a nurse who truly lived the SickKids values of compassion and collaboration.  She treated all those in her care with sensitivity and kindness, and was a fearless patient advocate and truly dedicated to her profession.  Her colleagues remember her as a role model for and promoter of life-long learning and she readily shared her expertise with those around her.

All nurses, full-time or part-time, within the Child and Adolescent Medicine and Psychiatry programs are eligible to apply for this award. The award will be presented to a nurse who:

  • Demonstrates exemplary nursing care provision for children, youth and their families and inspires excellence in others
  • Excels as a patient and family advocate  
  • Embraces change as an opportunity for professional growth and learning, demonstrating a life-long learning philosophy
  • Provides leadership locally or within the organization to advance the quality and family-centredness of care
  • Advances the organization’s strategic outcomes

In Iris’s honour, her friends, family and colleagues established this award, awarded annually, in support of professional development opportunities for a nurse committed to excellence in the provision of care within the Division of Child and Adolescent Medicine and Psychiatry.
