SickKids maintains high ranks on Canada’s Top 40 Research Hospitals 2018 list

Summary:

SickKids is pleased to once again be recognized by Research Infosource as one of Canada’s Top 40 Research Hospitals 2018. This is the eighth consecutive list ranking for SickKids.

The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is pleased to once again be recognized by Research Infosource as one of Canada’s Top 40 Research Hospitals 2018. This is the eighth consecutive list ranking for SickKids.

For the third year in a row, SickKids holds the number one rank for “hospital intensity” (research spending as a percentage of total hospital spending).

The annual Top 40 Research Hospitals list examines research hospitals across the country and ranks them based on both research spending and research intensity. With a four per cent increase in research spending in the last fiscal year, SickKids remains in the number two position for overall “research spending” among Canada’s leading research hospitals, second only to Toronto’s University Health Network, which comprises four hospitals. SickKids also maintained its number 2 rank for “researcher intensity” (research spending per researcher) among medium-sized hospitals.

“SickKids is proud to once again rank among the top of Canada’s Top 40 Research Hospitals list,” said Dr. Michael Salter, Chief of Research, SickKids. “Our research spending highlights the value we place on research and innovation, which contributes to advances in understanding disease processes, the development of new diagnostic tests and therapeutic approaches, and, ultimately, to improving child health outcomes.”

According to Research Infosource Inc., the total research spending for Canada’s top research hospitals, hospital networks and health authorities was nearly $2.65 billion in fiscal 2017. This represents a 4.1 per cent increase in spending from 2016.

This list highlights the leadership role that Ontario research hospitals play in building a healthier, wealthier, smarter future for Ontario and Canada.
