The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Kathy Boutis as the Chair of the Research Ethics Board (REB). 

Boutis is an Emergency Physician, Senior Associate Scientist in Child Health Evaluative Sciences, and Professor in the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Toronto. Internationally recognized for her clinical and medical education research, she has authored more than 130 peer-reviewed publications.  

With a decade of experience as Vice-Chair of the SickKids REB, Boutis brings deep expertise in ethics and research governance. In her new role, she will lead efforts to ensure the conduct of ethical, responsible clinical research while enabling innovative science that drives meaningful change for children and families. Her vision includes strengthening engagement, enhancing operational performance, and advancing ethical frameworks for emerging research areas such as genomics, artificial intelligence, and international data sharing. 

This appointment aligns with the Clinical Research Strategy, in support of SickKids 2030, and reinforces our commitment to ethical, innovative and impactful research. Clinical research is a key enabler of Precision Child Health, our movement to deliver individualized care for every child.
