SickKids scientist ranks among the world’s most influential researchers

Summary:

A SickKids scientist driving early-stage drug discovery was recognized on the 2025 Highly Cited Researchers list.

The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is proud to celebrate Dr. Mike Tyers on being recognized on Clarivate’s 2025 list of Highly Cited Researchers. This distinction places him among the top one per cent of researchers worldwide by citation impact in his field.

The Highly Cited Researchers list highlights individuals whose work has demonstrated broad and significant influence across the global research community. The 2025 list recognized 6,868 individuals from more than 1,300 institutions, include 227 researchers in Canada.

A Senior Scientist in the Molecular Medicine program, Tyers earned recognition in the Cross-Field category. His current research interests span the genetics of cell size control, the mapping of drug-gene interaction networks using high-throughput CRISPR-based screens, the de novo design of proteins and small molecules for early stage drug discovery, and the development of synthetic biotics as novel therapeutic agents. He applies these approaches to infectious disease, neurobiology, cancer and aging. Tyers also develops open-access resources for biological interaction data to facilitate discovery by the biomedical research community.
