Risto Filippi
Research Positions
Senior Associate Scientist, Neurosciences and Mental Health
Biography
Dr. Christopher (Risto) Filippi is a paediatric neuroradiologist with subspecialty interests in diffusion MRI, artificial intelligence (AI), and quantitative MR. He was appointed the Division Chief of Paediatric Neuroradiology at The Hospital for Sick Children in 2024. Dr. Filippi was the first editor of AI for the American Journal of Neuroradiology, a past president of the American Society of Functional Neuroradiology, and the Eastern Neuroradiology Society. He is currently the Secretary of the Pediatric MR Users Group for the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and is a member of the Radiology Society of North America’s Scientific Advisory Panel.
Research
Dr. Christopher (Risto) Filippi’s research interests include artificial intelligence (AI), diffusion MR contrast in normal brain development and disease states, glymphatic flow, and neuroinflammatory disorders and translating advanced MR imaging techniques into routine clinical practice. Recent work on applying restricted spectrum imaging to diffusion acquisitions from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development project revealed microstructural differences in deep grey nuclei that differed based on gender and were associated with different risks of mental health symptoms. Quantitative diffusion models applied to large datasets are a current focus of his research.
