Important update about toy donations for the 2020 holiday season

Thank you for thinking of SickKids this holiday season! The holidays may look different this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but everyone at SickKids is working hard to ensure we can continue to share the magic of the holiday season with our patients and families in hospital.

As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, so do SickKids’ health and safety measures. Please note that we have made some important changes to our donation guidelines for the 2020 holiday season.

At this time, there are visitor restrictions in place at SickKids. For everyone’s safety, we are not accepting in-person drop-offs of donations, including toys and games for our patients.

This year, there are additional limitations to the types of items and deliveries we can accept, so please connect with the Donations Coordinator (donations.coordinator@sickkids.ca) to discuss this in advance of collecting or delivering donations to SickKids.

The generosity of our community has always been a special part of the holiday season at SickKids, and your support would be appreciated in any of the following ways:

  • Purchasing items from online retailers and have the items shipped directly to the SickKids Shipping and Receiving department. Please let us know if you are interested and we would be happy to provide you with the latest wish list of items for patients and families, as well as the address for delivery. For the safety of our patients, families and staff we will only accept donated items that have been approved by the Donations Coordinator in advance. In order to meet the COVID-19 safety protocols regarding gift distribution in time for the holidays, the deadline to receive gifts ordered online is on or before December 2, 2020.
  • Donate funds to the SickKids Foundation Toy and Game Fund.  The Toy and Game Fund enables our Child Life team to purchase toys that help healing throughout the year. These toys and games are used primarily for the purposes of recreation and therapeutic play and includes art and craft supplies, toys, games, play equipment and diversional activities to be used by Child Life staff in patient care programs and our playrooms. To ensure your gift is properly directed, please include "Toy and Game Fund" in the Additional Comments field of the donation page. A tax receipt will be issued by SickKids Foundation
  • Donate funds through the SickKids Get Better Gifts program. This symbolic giving program consists of donations towards designated funds in support of SickKids. They range from promoting healing and recovery through play to essential items SickKids needs to provide the best care. A tax receipt will be issued by SickKids Foundation.
  • Donate funds through the Patient Amenities Fund. The Patient Amenities Fund is a source of assistance for families who have limited financial resources and whose child is receiving care at SickKids. For qualifying families, this fund can assist with expenses not covered or only partially covered by public health insurance and community resources. These include travel, food, accommodation, medication and medical equipment. To ensure your gift is properly directed, please include "Patient Amenities Fund" in the Additional Comments field of the donation page. A tax receipt will be issued by SickKids Foundation.
  • Host a virtual holiday fundraiser for SickKids. For more information please visit the SickKids Foundation Events page. A tax receipt will be issued by SickKids Foundation.

We thank you for your understanding and appreciate your continued support this holiday season!
