Anti-Ro60 antibodies are frequently detected in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and Sjögren’s syndrome (SS), often in association with anti-Ro52 and anti-SS-B/La antibodies. Anti-Ro/SS-A antibodies are included in current classification criteria for Sjögren’s disease and may contribute to the classification of SLE when interpreted with other clinical and laboratory findings. Anti-Ro60 antibodies may also be present in patients with clinical features of SLE who have a negative ANA result.
Maternal anti-Ro/SS-A antibodies are clinically significant because of their association with neonatal lupus and congenital heart block, including congenital complete atrioventricular block. Risk assessment during pregnancy should consider the overall clinical context and relevant autoantibody findings.
Because isolated reactivity to Ro52 or Ro60 may not be reliably detected by assays using a mixture of Ro antigens, separate determination of anti-Ro52 and anti-Ro60 antibodies may improve detection and characterization of the autoimmune response.
This test detects antibodies directed against Ro60 and is intended to aid in the evaluation of patients with suspected systemic autoimmune rheumatic disease. Results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical findings, ANA results, other disease-associated autoantibodies, and relevant laboratory investigations.
