Background and clinical significance

Sulfatides (3-O-Sulfogalactosyl ceramides) accumulate in three neurodegenerative inborn errors of metabolism (metachromatic leukodystrophy [MLD], saposin B deficiency, and multiple sulfatase deficiency [MSD]).
