Dr. Navarro graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the Catholic University of Chile in Santiago, Chile, in 1990. He did his residency in diagnostic radiology in Santiago, Chile, and completed a fellowship in pediatric radiology at the Hospital for Sick Children and University of Toronto, in Toronto, Canada, in June 2000. He joined the staff in the Department of Diagnostic Imaging at the Hospital for Sick Children in April 2001.
His present clinical work is in the area of general pediatric body imaging. His special research interests are in sonography, abdominal imaging and imaging of soft-tissue masses. He has extensively published in the topics of intussusception, intestinal malrotation, necrotizing enterocolitis, vascular anomalies and other pediatric soft-tissue masses.
Navarro has authored more than 80 peer-reviewed publications in addition to several book chapters, and a large number of scientific oral presentations and educational exhibits. He has been invited to give lectures at numerous meetings and visiting professorships worldwide. In 2019, he was awarded the Jack O. Haller - Thomas L. Slovis Award for Excellence in Pediatric Radiology Teaching by the Society for Pediatric Radiology (SPR).
Navarro is a Professor in the Department of Medical Imaging at the University of Toronto. He is the Fellowship Program Director of the Department of Diagnostic Imaging at the Hospital for Sick Children, Pediatric Radiology Residency Program Director and member of the Executive and Education Committees in the Department of Medical Imaging at the University of Toronto, and the radiologist in charge of teaching rounds in Pediatric Sonography for residents and fellows.
