COVID-19 Testing for Children with Medical Complexity at SickKids
SickKids offers COVID-19 testing for children with medical complexity and children with developmental disorders in alignment with provincial testing guidance. This includes access to on-site paediatric resources and accommodations for mobility, communication, behavioural and other specialized health care needs.
SickKids is not a public COVID-19 testing centre. You must ensure your child meets the criteria to be tested at SickKids before booking a test.
COVID-19 tests are offered to children who meet the following criteria
- Children with underlying immuno-deficiency or individuals on medication causing immunosuppression, or are immunocompromised (e.g. chemotherapy, solid organ or bone marrow transplant)
- Children with multiple medical complexities and/or co-morbidities that put them at higher risk of experiencing severe disease or hospitalization if diagnosed with COVID-19
- Children with medical or behavioural challenges living in a congregate care setting (group home, foster home, medical facility, etc.)
If you have questions about your child’s eligibility for COVID-19 testing at SickKids, please email us at mobile.outreach@sickkids.ca.
What if my child doesn’t meet the criteria?
If a child is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, it should be assumed they are positive for COVID-19. Please follow public health guidelines and self-isolate at home from the time the symptoms began.
If a child has been exposed to a positive case of COVID-19, monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 and if symptoms develop, stay home and self-isolate.
