Here's what you can expect through the hiring process at SickKids. We know applying for a job takes energy and effort and we want to make the process as smooth and seamless as possible. Our goal is to keep you informed at all stages of the journey.

Application
All applications must be submitted through our careers site by the closing date. Resumes are not accepted in person or by email.
- You’re welcome to apply for multiple positions.
- You can apply using a smart phone or tablet.
- Not all positions require a cover letter, so review the job posting to see if one is required.
- If you aren’t sure who the hiring manager is, address your cover letter to Human Resources.
You may be asked screening questions based on the requirements for the role. We also ask sociodemographic questions when you apply. All responses are kept confidential. This information helps us to understand the diversity of our candidate pool.
You’ll receive a confirmation email when your application is received.

Resume Review
All resumes are reviewed against the essential requirements for the role, listed under "here's what you'll need" on the job posting.
We may reach out if we need clarification about your application. The resume review process typically takes two to three weeks from the time the job posting closes.
Interview
If you’re selected for an interview, we’ll reach out to schedule a time to meet.
During the interview, you’ll have the opportunity to learn more about the role and share your skills and experiences with the hiring team. The hiring manager will answer any questions you may have.
If you’re not selected for an interview, you’ll hear from us by email. Don’t be discouraged, we’re always looking for talented people and there may be another opportunity for you at SickKids in the future.
What to expect from the interview:
- Interviews may be in-person or online. Most interviews will include the hiring manager and additional team members. Depending on the role, there may be more than one interview.
- The interview questions are chosen to help us better understand how your experience and skills match the job's requirements. We want to learn more about you and share what makes SickKids special too.
- If you need an accommodation to take part in an interview, please advise the Hiring Manager or Talent Acquisition Specialist scheduling your interview.
Selection & Offer
After all interviews have been completed, the hiring team will decide who will be offered the role.
If you’re selected, we’ll call you with the good news. Afterward, you’ll receive an electronic offer letter detailing the terms and conditions of the offer. You will have 7 days to review and respond to the offer.
We’re happy to answer your questions about the offer or joining the SickKids team. Contact the hiring manager or request a call with a member of the Human Resources team.
Our offers are conditional upon satisfactory completion of:
- Two recent professional references
- Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check or Vulnerable Sector Screening (depending on the role)
- Compliance with immunization requirements

- We do not require Social Insurance Numbers from candidates until after a formal job offer has been extended, reviewed, and accepted.
- Our interview process is conducted through professional channels only. We do not use text messages or informal platforms for interviews.

Onboarding
Congratulations and welcome aboard. We’re excited you’re joining the SickKids team!
You’ll receive an email about next steps, including any required documentation we need from you. We'll guide you through this process, to help ensure a smooth start.
Some of the requirements to work at SickKids have a cost associated with them, which are your responsibility. Here’s the documentation we need:
- You’ll need to visit a health-care provider to complete a TB test and Immunization documentation before you start. Depending on the health-care provider, there may be a cost for this, which can range from $0-$100.
- As required by the Public Hospital Act (Regulation 96; Section 4) and to ensure the safety of our patients, caregivers and staff, we require documentation of a two-step TB test within the last one year and proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella (chicken pox).
- A Criminal Record & Judicial Matters Check (approx. $27) or Vulnerable Sector Check (approx. $72) (the job posting specifies which one is needed for the role)
- If you’ve lived outside of Canada within the past 7 years, you’ll also need an international criminal check (approx. $38-375) dependent on multiple factors.
