Patients and families at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) were in for quite a treat on Friday, October 7, when some special athletes showed up for a visit. Four members of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic swim teams – Penny Oleksiak, Michelle Williams, Kylie Masse and Tess Routliffe – came to Marnie’s Lounge to say hello, take photos, sign autographs and hang out with an enthusiastic group of kids.'

“I was a patient at SickKids myself; I had a lot of surgeries here, so it’s very close to my heart,” said Michelle Williams, bronze medalist. “Also, as an athlete, it’s important that we give back to the community because it’s the community that supports us through all this.”

The swimmers chatted with patients about their favourite sport teams and what they like most about athletics. The kids even got to hold the medals!
