Two SickKids scientists elected to the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences

Drs. Aleixo Muise and Arjumand Siddiqi from The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) have been elected as Fellows of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (CAHS), one of the highest honours in Canada's health sciences community.
The CAHS brings together Canada’s leading health and biomedical scientists and scholars from across disciplines to address pressing health challenges and help shape the future of health care research. Muise and Siddiqi are recognized for their exceptional leadership and scientific contributions to improving health and well-being in Canada and globally.
Dr. Aleixo Muise
Senior Scientist, Cell & Systems Biology, Staff Physician, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition and Co-Director, SickKids Inflammatory Bowel Disease Centre
Dr. Aleixo Muise is internationally recognized for advancing precision medicine approaches for children with intestinal disease, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and congenital diarrhea and enteropathy.His research has transformed understanding of severe paediatric intestinal diseases by identifying genetic causes of disease and uncovering biological pathways that can inform new treatment approaches.
Muise co-directs the SickKids IBD Centre and leads the Precision IBD and Monogenic Intestinal Disease (PIMID) clinic, where multidisciplinary teams use precision medicine approaches, including high-throughput drug screening, to find disease-driving pathways and guide medication strategies for each unique patient.
Muise is a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Professor in the Departments of Paediatrics and Biochemistry and the Institute of Medical Sciences at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Arjumand Siddiqi

Dr. Arjumand Siddiqi is recognized for advancing the understanding of how social conditions and public policies influence health and health inequities. Her research examines how factors such as income inequality, employment, social policies, and other societal conditions shape health outcomes across populations and over time.
As a social epidemiologist, Siddiqi’s work has helped demonstrate that improving health requires understanding the broader environments in which people work and live. At SickKids, she contributes to research examining the policies and social conditions that influence child health and well-being.
Siddiqi is a Professor in the Division of Epidemiology, Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto and an Adjunct Professor at Harvard University and University of North Carolina.
