Biography

Laura Kinlin is a staff physician in the Division of Paediatric Medicine and a postdoctoral research fellow at SickKids Research Institute. A graduate of Dalhousie Medical School, she completed residency training in Paediatrics at the University of Toronto and an Academic General Paediatrics Fellowship at SickKids.

Her clinical and research interests include growth and nutrition in autism spectrum disorder (ASD); her research is supported by a Fellowship Award from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).

Research

Dr. Kinlin's previous research interests have addressed topical child health issues relating to three primary areas:

  1. environment and communicable diseases
  2. population-level effects of meningococcal vaccination
  3. evaluation and treatment of paediatric gastroenteritis

Currently, Dr. Kinlin’s research focuses on growth and nutrition in autism spectrum disorder (ASD). She is principal investigator of a Canadian Paediatric Surveillance Program (CPSP) identifying cases of serious micronutrient deficiency in children and youth with ASD. As a post-doctoral trainee at ICES, she studies weight status and growth trajectories of children with ASD, leveraging electronic medical record data.

Dr. Kinlin’s research interests are unified by a focus on highly prevalent and highly morbid conditions, using diverse observational epidemiologic methods and a variety of data sources (e.g., administrative health data, surveillance data, and hospital-level clinical data).
