SickKids exploring possibility of caring for some patients with cancer from Ukraine

Summary:

SickKids is working with government and community partners to explore the possibility of providing care for paediatric patients with cancer from Ukraine.

The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) has been working with our partners to address urgent child health-care priorities in Ukraine. We are currently exploring the possibility of providing care to a few patients with cancer from Ukraine. This is a highly fluid situation with involvement from many government and community partners.

At this time, there are no confirmed plans to care for these patients at SickKids. However, the teams have started preliminary preparations in the event paediatric patients and their families from Ukraine require care in Toronto.

Toronto has a strong and compassionate Ukrainian community and SickKids has long-standing partnerships with Ukrainian children’s hospitals that enable us to support urgent children’s health-care needs in Ukraine.

All children deserve access to specialized health care, regardless of their place of origin or geographic location. While the priority at SickKids is meeting the needs of children in Ontario and Canada, we acknowledge that there is a moral responsibility to provide care to critically ill children from abroad, consistent with our vision of Healthier Children. A Better World
