Dr. Lewis Kay honoured with Alexander Hollaender Award in Biophysics

Summary:

The SickKids scientist was honoured for his groundbreaking work in biochemistry and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy.

Dr. Lewis Kay

Dr. Lewis Kay, Senior Scientist in the Molecular Medicine program at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), is the recipient of the 2025 Alexander Hollaender Award in Biophysics.

The award, which honours outstanding contributions made to the field of biophysics, is presented every three years by the National Academy of Sciences.

Kay, a University Professor at University of Toronto, was recognized for his pioneering work in biochemistry and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, which has advanced scientific understanding of the structure, dynamics and functions of macromolecules. His research, which intersects both physical chemistry and medical sciences, has paved the way for applying NMR to a variety of molecular systems to study a range of health conditions.

Kay will be honored in a ceremony on April 27 during the National Academy of Sciences’ annual meeting. Read more in the announcement from the National Academy of Sciences.
